The Classic Grid, which is typically a series of three questions and three Classic Rows, is useful when you have a lot on your mind and want to dive into a longer reading.

How To Play

  1. Play this formation alone or with a group.

  2. Separate The Deck of Character into its three main categories.

  3. Ask a question. This formation can be paired with any question. For question ideas, visit Questions.

  4. Shuffle each pile.

  5. Pull one card at random from each category, forming a Basic Row.

  6. Flip the cards over.

  7. Interpret. If playing in a group, the person who asked the question typically speaks first. While The DOC is more about improvising and honoring your genuine reaction to the cards, you can read about each card more in depth via Cards. If playing in a group, you can either pass the deck between players after each row, or allow one player to complete the whole grid first before passing the deck.

  8. Repeat Steps 3-7 for two more questions, forming a 3x3 card grid.

  9. If playing in a group, pass the deck to the next player.
